This course familiarizes the student with the theories, concepts, elements, and principles of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) in the Philippine setting. The roles of Physical Therapist in the community, with emphasis on home health care and CBR programs, and other non-clinical settings (wellness, injury / disease prevention, evidence-based practice, teaching and learning, to name a few), and translation of skills to community-based practice will be emphasized. Visitations to Community-Based Rehabilitation Centers and clinics are included.   Professional competency, conduct and standards of practice application shall be enhanced.  The role of the physical therapist and other health care professionals as members of the allied health professions will be covered.  Ethical principles, cultural competence and moral conduct shall be emphasized.  The pedagogy of service-learning shall be a focus of the course.

This course will also introduce applications of clinical practice in preparation for internship with focus on integration of various assessments and evaluation skills, patient care, basic therapy applications and documentation skills.  Integration and application of physical therapy skills, under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor, on real patients will be a major part of this course.

General Objectives:

The student must be able to assess and evaluate a patient by using the appropriate techniques and assessment skills that were learned in other professional subjects.  Identify and interpret significant findings from evaluation, formulate goals and treatment program, and implement physical therapy management to the patient with maximum supervision from a Clinical Instructor. Proper documentation should be observed.
