
Course Name: Nursing Informatics (Laboratory Class)
Course Credits: 3 units (2 units lecture, 36 lecture hours; 1-unit laboratory, 54 laboratory hours)
Course Description: This course deals with the use of information technology system and data standards based on nursing informatics principles/theories.
It further deals with the utilization of clinical information systems in the management and decision-making of patient care primarily in
the Philippines and the world. Relevant E-laboratory sessions will provide application of topics discussed in the classroom. It will equip
the student with skills necessary to search the internet accurately to gather and assess evidence-based practice policies, procedures
and information, for the health care team and their clients. It will introduce them to the nursing profession with a sufficient knowledge
on basic computer hardware, software and related terminologies, the concepts in the internet, digital media, social mediums, web 4.0
and other helpful informatics websites.

- Explain how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is used in nursing informatics, including its basics, structure, rules, and ethical considerations.
- Learn and apply effective online search methods to find relevant literature for nursing informatics.
- Utilize advanced productivity tools for writing manuscripts and analyze health data for comprehensive understanding and communication in the field of nursing informatics.
- Create different types of documentation forms using online survey tools such as Google Forms, specifically for nursing purposes.
- Discuss the current and emerging trends in ICT for Nursing, highlighting their advantages and challenges in improving healthcare.
- Explore how new technologies from the Fourth Industrial Revolution impact health and healthcare services.
- Practice using a medical records system (openMRS) to simulate its functioning and understand its role in healthcare.
